Early in 2024 I decided it was time to get a personal website.

Obviously, this was not my first website. I made the old geocities website back in the 90s, did a responsive design online class while unemployed in Japan, made some PHP and Flask stuff in College, but none of those are still around.

In the meantime, I was also interested in learning my 3rd Cloud. I learned Azure in school, and since entering the IT workforce have used AWS extensively (I even got my Solutions Architect cert 💖. This time I set out to learn Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Who am I?

I’m a late bloomer to IT.

I got my first 286 10mhz PC when I was around 5 or 6 and used it extensively for gaming: especially Sierra adventure games like Quest for Glory (Hero’s Quest, if you’re as old as me) and Space Quest. I also loved the Dungeons and Dragons Gold Box series, and have been an off-and-on gamer ever since.

I built my first PC in High School but never considered going into it professionally. I was going to be a Doctor, or a Professor, or an Air Traffic Controller. When none of those worked out—and approaching my 5th decade—I decided it was time to do the IT thing. At the time I was living in Japan, and as awesome as studying for the CCNA in my third language would have been, I decided to come back to my birth-home, America.

After graduating from Inver Hills Community College with an AAS in IT Networks and Security, I got a position working as a DevNet Software Practitioner. I’d already done some coding and webapps previously, but now I officially was both an IT Engineer and a Software Engineer.
